At Tillingbourne Junior School, we celebrate the rich diversity of languages, cultures and experiences within our community. Children who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) bring valuable strengths to our school, and we are committed to ensuring they feel confident, included and able to thrive.
We understand that learning in a new language can feel both exciting and challenging. Our approach is supportive and inclusive. In school, we:
Provide carefully planned support that builds vocabulary and understanding over time
Use visual resources, modelling and structured talk to support language development
Encourage collaborative learning so children can practise speaking and listening in meaningful contexts
Monitor progress closely to ensure children are developing both academically and linguistically
Work closely with families to understand each child’s background and prior learning
We also recognise that parents and carers may sometimes need additional support or guidance. If English is not your first language and you would like help understanding school communication, policies or expectations, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We are very happy to arrange meetings, provide clarification or explore ways to make communication easier.
Our aim is simple: every child has the right to learn, the right to be heard and the right to be themselves. We are proud of our inclusive community and look forward to working in partnership with you.
